WNBA Star Sophie Cunningham Opens Up About Caitlin Clark’s Personality Off the Court
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has shared new insight into Caitlin Clark’s life away from basketball, describing her teammate as down-to-earth, relatable, and surprisingly quirky.
Speaking on the February 25 episode of the Like a Farmer podcast, Cunningham said Clark remains refreshingly normal despite her superstar status. She explained that while Clark is deeply passionate about basketball and handles pressure well for someone her age, she is also “a big dork” who doesn’t fit the typical image of a sports icon.
Cunningham added that Clark’s easygoing personality makes her especially lovable, noting that there isn’t one standout story that defines her—just an overall fun and genuine vibe that fans might not expect.
She also touched on the close-knit culture within the WNBA, explaining that players are often more outspoken and playful than people realize. According to Cunningham, the league’s locker-room environment is filled with humor and candid conversations that outsiders rarely see.
Previously, Cunningham compared her relationship with Clark to that of pop stars Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift, emphasizing how Clark’s influence has helped elevate both her teammates and the league as a whole. In a 2025 interview with Us Weekly, she praised Clark for bringing global attention to women’s basketball and inspiring others.
Cunningham stressed that she values teamwork over competition and believes in supporting fellow players. She said she is happy to play her role alongside Clark and help her shine on the court.
“I’ll let her be the star she deserves to be,” Cunningham said, adding that she is always ready to support Clark when needed.
Meanwhile, the WNBA and the players’ union are currently negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement, with the possibility of a lockout if talks fail. If that happens, Cunningham joked that she might try appearing on Bravo’s Summer House, admitting she is a big fan of reality TV.
Her co-host West Wilson laughed at the idea, saying fans would love it—something Cunningham enthusiastically agreed with.
