Daniel Farke was shown a red card shortly after Leeds United suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

The visitors, who are chasing the Premier League title, secured all three points at Elland Road thanks to Antoine Semenyo’s first-half strike. Leeds had created several early chances but failed to convert, and their frustration grew in the second half as City defended their lead.

Their 11th league loss of the season was confirmed at the final whistle by referee Peter Bankes. After exchanging handshakes with Pep Guardiola, Farke walked onto the pitch and approached the officials, clearly expressing his displeasure. Moments later, Bankes dismissed him.

In a statement, the Premier League explained: “Daniel Farke was sent off for entering the field of play and confronting the referee after the final whistle.”

As a result, Farke will serve a one-match touchline ban, which is expected to be enforced during Leeds’ home match against Sunderland on Tuesday night.

With Farke unavailable for post-match duties, assistant coach Edmund Riemer spoke to the media instead. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said the manager was unhappy with City’s time management late in the game.

Riemer explained: “There were several incidents, including time-wasting and a late yellow card during six minutes of added time. Emotions were high, and he went onto the pitch, which led to the red card. It may have been seen as too aggressive, but he is rarely sent off, so it feels harsh.”

According to The Mirror, Leeds are considering appealing the decision. The club is expected to request referee camera footage, believing it will show that Farke had not said anything inappropriate. Farke insists he was dismissed before speaking to the officials.

Bright start, disappointing finish

Leeds began the match strongly and looked capable of causing an upset in the opening stages. They attacked with confidence and limited City’s space through solid defending.

However, their focus slipped just before half-time, allowing Semenyo to score from close range — a goal that proved decisive.

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow delivered an impressive performance, making several key saves to prevent City from extending their lead.

In the closing stages, Farke introduced attacking substitutions in an attempt to secure a vital point, but his side could not find an equaliser.

Leeds are now without a win in three league matches and remain six points clear of the relegation zone. They could drop to 16th place on Sunday if Tottenham Hotspur defeat Fulham at Craven Cottage.
